Is There a Difference Between a Cranial Prosthesis and a Wig?
YES
While a cranial prosthesis is a wig, it is classified as a cranial prosthesis if a diagnosed medical condition, treatment, or other clinical disease causes the hair loss necessitating the prosthetic. The hair loss requiring a hair prosthesis can be long-term or permanent, and the prosthesis can provide full or partial coverage.  A cranial prosthesis offers those who've lost their hair a high-quality, comfortable hair replacement option usually covered by insurance.

A cranial prosthesis differs from an off-the-shelf wig in quality and function and is designed with the client's comfort in mind.
Unlike an  off-the-shelf wig, a cranial prosthesis is designed with the individual customer undergoing a series of head measurements to obtain a perfect fit, and an off-the-shelf wig is not found in retail stores with the one-size-fits concept.

Wig  Types

Cranial Prosthesis:
A custom-made wig for a patient who has lost their hair due to a medi
cal condition.
Monofilament:
A monofilament-made wig hand ties each hair to a soft lace material. A monofilament crown, part, or top mimics the appearance of hair growth from the scalp and helps the prosthesis look much more natural, having the benefit of natural movement and added comfort.
Full Lace:
A full lace prosthesis covers the entire head and is installed slightly differently than a lace front prosthesis that is only attached at the front edges of your head.
Frontal Lace:
A frontal lace prosthesis has a small sheer lace panel along the front hairline attached to the front of the prosthesis. The hair is sewn into the lace. Lace-front prosthetics are elastic in the back and cover the entire scalp area with a natural hairstyle.
 Toppers & Toupees:
Toppers and toupees are designed to add volume to thin or fine hair areas and are for smaller specific areas of the head.
